Instagram adds a new carousel view interface for Stories on desktop

Along with updating the design and overall look of the Instagram mobile app, the franchise is also focusing its attention on the desktop version of the app. The Instagram desktop version received support for DMs only last year; the current update that Instagram is working on will let the desktop version users view Stories. The feature has allegedly gone live, and after receiving the update, the Stories section will sport a new look.

The new carousel view interface for stories apparently will make the Stories bar on the desktop version unique. The web version will open up to a carousel of videos, and it will also give the users a preview of the next content on Stories, and the one that just played. Here, the user can choose to click on whatever story they feel like watching. Taken on its face value, it may feel like a minor change, but for those users who frequently use the desktop version of Instagram, this change will be of major significance.

Up until now, viewing Stories on the desktop version has not been ideal for anyone. The Stories appeared in a single tile that took up the entire page which proved to be of inconvenience to a lot of users. With the latest interface, Stories appear in a carousel-like figure, rather than the old cumbersome single tile. The navigation process remains the same; however, there is no option to swipe to view the next person’s story.

The new interface will also make it easier to keep track of the entire Stories queue. The new interface lets the users view the last few people’s stories, and the next few queued up, making the entire process simpler, cleaner, more coherent than before. Hopefully, Instagram will also add this new changed interface for the Instagram app for iPads.
