Stellanttis has partnered with the Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn to create Mobile Drive through which both the companies will collaborate on infotainment and in-vehicle connectivity offerings. Both the companies have admitted “accelerating development timelines to bring innovative in-vehicle user experiences enabled by advanced consumer electronics, HMI interfaces, and services that will exceed customer expectations”.
The newly created infotainment system will connect both the inside and the outside of the vehicles in which they are installed. Moreover, the new project will also offer upgrades and optional vehicles features which will provide new revenue streams for both Stellantis and Foxconn. All of Stellantis brands will use Mobile Drive systems in their vehicles. However, it is not yet clear as to which vehicles will get the Mobile Drive first.
Previously, Foxconn had worked with Fiat Chrysler which created the Airflow Vision concept. There has been no indication that this new venture will result in the production of its very own new vehicles, but this guarantees to enhance the user experience for autonomous capable vehicles.
As part of the deal, Foxconn will supply infotainment systems to Stellanttis and offer its technology platforms to be used in a variety of ways by other automotive manufacturers. The systems due to the Mobile Drive will be equipped with biometric recognition functionality, an AI personal assistant.
It has been only a hundred days since the company Stellantis was formed due to the merger of PSA Group and FCA. The CEO of the newly formed company Carlos Tavares, that “the vehicles of the future will be increasingly software-driven and software-defined.”
Both the companies will benefit from the joint Mobile Drive venture. As per the reports the new venture will be headquartered in the Netherlands. The company spokesperson has also revealed that the work for the joint venture is progressing at a high speed.
