OnePlus has been working closely with the Chinese tech giant Oppo for a while now, and recently in an official blog post, OnePlus has confirmed that the company has merged with Oppo following their positive joint collaboration. However, co-founder and CEO of OnePlus Pete Lau also mentioned in the forum post that both the companies will operate independently as separate brands.
Lau in the post mentioned that with their latest merger move, the company will benefit greatly and as such would perhaps be the recipient of even more resources which will directly impact the kinds of products the company launches and will also work towards capitalizing on their additional shared resources. One such case would be a faster rollout of stable software updates, especially for older generation OnePlus phones.
Lau mentioned in the post, “We are now at a turning point for the future of OnePlus. As we have started to develop our product portfolio, we are able to offer you more choices than ever before. True to our Never Settle spirit, we want to continue to provide you with the highest quality OnePlus experience possible. And for that, you have to adapt as a team and as a brand.”
OnePlus and Oppo both are owned by Guangdong-based conglomerate BBK Electronics that also owns brands such as Vivo and Realme. Thereby, all of these companies share the resources among themselves. Now that the collaboration between Oppo and OnePlus has been made public, both the companies now have the opportunities to channelize more of their internal resources.
“As for the OnePlus brand – we will continue to operate independently, focused on providing you with the best possible products and experience as we have always done,” Lau said in the post titled “A New Journey for OnePlus.” This indicates that the users would not go through any major changes.
