Xiaomi’s MIUI Gallery app is drastically increasing in size

A Reddit user complained about their Xiaomi phone, and the MIUI the smartphone is running on. As per the user’s testimony, the size of the gallery app increases drastically on the MIUI. On the smartphone storage, the gallery takes about 2.65GB of space.

Ideally, moving some of the pictures from the app to another device should free up some storage on the smartphone. However, that is not the case here. The user explicitly mentioned that they had moved the pictures from their smartphone to another device, and the size of the gallery app remained the same. The tale does not end there. The user also claims that the size of the gallery app has been increasing slowly for weeks. App settings do not offer any viable source for this problem, and mentions only “user data”.

The smartphone in question is the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. The storage issue seems to be the only problem with the gallery app on the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. The installation of all-new in-app filters and functions takes up a total of 500MB in size.

The Reddit thread also mentions that the user tried clearing the app cache in the settings but to no avail. But downloading the .apk file for the same, and afterward deleting the update has decreased the user data down to 30MB.

Although the exact root of this problem remains a mystery as of now, it could also be a problem with the trashbin, as pointed out by another user. However, the trash bin gets rid of any photos deleted 30 days after the user deletes them from the album.

On the other hand, it is also true that gallery creates cache when a user opens a photo, and also downloads extra data which serves to make the file increase in size.
