All Chromium-based browsers can have a more modern and improved scroll bar experience on the Windows 11 platform thanks to Microsoft’s work. Microsoft has updated the Edge browser with Windows 11-compatible design enhancements, including transparency, Mica, and rounded corners.
Microsoft tweaked the scroll bar properties of Chromium Scrollbars in Windows 11/10. Microsoft wants Chromium Scrollbars to look as good as other Windows applications and perform as well as Chromium’s smooth scrolling behavior.
In Windows 11, enable Overlay Scrollbars for Microsoft Edge:
1. If the Microsoft Edge browser is open, close all instances and channels.
2. In the “Run” dialog box or command prompt, type the following and click Enter.

3. Launch Edge Canary, go to a webpage and examine the scroll bar.
The Overlay Scrollbar displays only while the mouse is hovered over and disappears when the mouse has moved away.
“In order to be consistent with the look and experience of Windows 11, we have began to try to use the overlay scroll bar again in Edge (going to also push it upstream in chrome),” said Microsoft Edge senior product manager Scott Low.
When you run the above command from the Run dialog, Microsoft has already stated that you will notice Edge Scrollbars with the Windows 11 appearance and feel. As a result, the scrollbar enhancements are only visible in Edge; Chrome may receive them later.
Chrome’s Overlay Scrollbars feature has been available for a while. You might wish to enable it and see whether it affects the way the scrollbar appears in Microsoft’s new operating system.
When Windows is in Dark Mode, no one likes the ugly white scrollbar in Applications. In Windows 11, Microsoft is working to make the scrollbars in Chrome and Edge more current and fantastic. When you enable Overlay Scrollbars in Microsoft Edge, you’ll see a difference right away.
