Nokia has definitely learned from the experience of last year and is taking no chances this time. Having missed out on the time is set for its Android 11 rollout, the company has sped up the process of rolling out updates.
Not wanting a repeated scenario from last year, Nokia became one of the very first OEMs to enroll in the Android 12 Developer Preview in May. And now finally, Nokia has begun a rollout of the Android 12 developer preview for its enrolled device, the Nokia X20.
Nokia X20 is one of the latest additions to the company’s product list and was originally launched with the Android 11 version. However, the X20 users are in for a good time as they can now enjoy the next big update without having to wait any longer. The users who put in for the program can simply follow the steps below;
1. Go to the My Phone app
2. Click on Support, and then scroll down to find “Android developer preview”. The app will immediately check the eligibility of the phone’s IMEI before prompting the user to accept software license T&C.
And then the update goes live!
Although the Android 12 build which is due to be released in the next few hours is just a developer version, users can have it right away if they so wish. Just follow these steps;
1. Navigate to ‘System’
2. About Phone
3. System Updates to manually check for the update.
It is however very important to note that this release is definitely not meant for all users and may come with some serious bugs and issues. That is why Nokia has issued a statement cautioning users of the possible consequences of installing the Android 12.
Under normal circumstances, developer preview program releases are only meant for application developers and are usually not recommended for use by the general public.
Although the Android 12 has been tested over and over again by Nokia’s development team, the builds may still show some performance issues.
Usually, some apps may not be supported and users may be forced to roll back the upgrade to Android 11 which will almost always result in data loss. That is why it is advisable to back up all user data before rolling back.
