Today, October 12, the American multinational technology company, International Business Machines (IBM) has announced its cooperation with a weather company to help businesses manage the effects of climate change and measure their own environmental impact.
The weather tool, Environmental Intelligence Suite, leverages AI (artificial intelligence) will provide weather, climate, and operational data within an environmental performance management platform.
The company was established solely to help organizations dealing with natural calamities such as flooding, wildfires, poor air quality, and other natural disasters.
According to the general manager of IBM AI Applications, Kareem Yusuf, the companies are dealing with the repercussions of catastrophic weather disruptions on their operations.
“The future of business and the environment are deeply intertwined, IBM is combining the power of AI and hybrid cloud to provide businesses with environmental intelligence designed to help them improve environmental performance and reporting, create more efficient business operations to reduce resource consumption, and plan for resiliency in the face of climate disruptions.”
He further stated that the suite of software, developed by IBM and The Weather Company, is intended to handle climate-related asset damage, supply chain disruptions, and other issues.
However, the application also aids in the automation of tasks such as carbon accounting and reduction, which the firms claim is frequently laborious and difficult and necessitates heavy manual labor, climate, and data science knowledge, and computing capacity.
“The Environmental Intelligence Suite is an extension of IBM’s services, which have been offered to hundreds of businesses for several years. IBM distributes meteorological data on a regular basis, and the new SaaS platform will use that data to alert businesses to potential weather-related issues.” He added.
However, the duo companies explained how the suite delivers environmental insights that will help companies address both immediate operational challenges.
“Through APIs, dashboards, maps, and alarms, the suite provides environmental insights that will help firms manage both urgent operational difficulties and long-term planning and goals.” said the two companies.
